My
counsel shall stand
When our Lord Jesus Christ was crucified, God's law and commandments were
transgressed by those who crucified Him. At the same time, and by the very
same act, God's will and purpose were being fulfilled.
There is no room for doubt that the wicked actions of men are voluntary and
willful violations of God's holy law. Men are wholly responsible and justly
accountable to God for such actions.
Although God has a definite purpose for the wicked to serve, He does not
force, or compel them to act wickedly. It is inherent in them to act according
to their own evil nature, just as it is for the dog to go back to his own
vomit, and the hog to his wallowing in the mire (II Peter 2:22).
The wicked have no awareness that they are fulfilling God's sovereign purpose.
Whatever the wicked do (and they always act from tainted motives), or fail to
do, God's counsel shall stand and his will and purpose shall be fulfilled.
"My
counsel shall stand and I will do all my pleasure" (Isaiah 45:10)
